Second Eclogues, 13-17

According to Sidney, virtuous noble ladies are always desperate to hear the whinings of shepherds. But we all know better. Virtuous noble ladies would just like their shepherds to pipe down for awhile.

It’s a bad drawing, but I bet she’s holding a box with a bear’s paw in it. Or a lion’s head. Because the virtuous noble ladies also have to put up with knights who have woefully bad judgment about what constitutes an appropriate gift.

That, and being taken against their will sometimes. Poor virtuous noble ladies.
